Aston Villa completed the signing of Ireland defender Richard Dunne from Manchester City before English football’s transfer window closed.
The teams had agreed to a fee for Dunne last week and completed the move on Tuesday.
Dunne had been captain at Manchester City and the club’s player of the year four times but manager Mark Hughes has signed Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott to play in central defence.
