Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has broken his right leg while playing for the Premier League club and will likely miss Croatia’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Croatian limped off the field shortly after halftime in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Birmingham. Tottenham said that “X-rays have determined that Luka Modric sustained a fracture to his right fibula.”

Modric helped Tottenham win its first four Premier League matches.

The club gave no indication how long Modic would be out of action. Croatia hosts Belarus on Saturday before playing England the following Wednesday.

Tottenham’s next match is scheduled for September 12 against Manchester United.
