Chelsea captain John Terry has agreed to a five-year deal with the Premier League leaders, according to British media reports.

The new contract could earn the England defender as much as 50 pounds millions ($81 million), several Sunday newspapers said.

The 28-year-old Terry, who had three seasons remaining on his existing deal, spurned a lucrative offer from Manchester City in the off-season to stay at the club he joined at 14.

Chelsea has made a strong start to the season, winning its first four matches to lead the league on goal difference.
