Sporting Clube de Goa found the target twice in the second half to down Pailan Arrows 2-0 in a 20th round match of the I-League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday.
Nigerian midfielder Ogba Kalu and Victorino Fernandes struck to register their third successive win under new Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon.
The first-half remained barren with neither showing attacking skills. Sporting Clube, determined to break the deadlock, started attacking after the break.
The Goan side raided on the right and got the breakthrough in the 63rd minute. Kalu tapped the ball home without any resistance after an assist from substitute Dawson Fernandes, who positioned himself deep inside the Arrows box.
Arrows had a chance to equalise in the 85th minute, but Pranoy Halder’s header off a set-piece failed to beat the Sporting goalkeeper Bruno Colaco.
Victorino Fernandes doubled the score a minute later when he unleashed a rasping pile-driver that gave Soram no scope to defend.
The win took Sporting Clube’s tally to 23 points while Pailan Arrows remained on 19 points. — Principal Correspondent
