A Finnish doctor who is set to perform surgery on David Beckham’s Achilles’ tendon says there is a “glimmer of hope” the injured England star will recover in time for the World Cup.

Surgeon Sakari Orava told Finnish broadcaster YLE on Monday that it’s not realistic to expect Beckham to be fit just three months after surgery but added that such “miraculous” recoveries have happened before.

Orava says “there’s a little glimmer of hope still alive here.”

Beckham was expected to arrive in Finland for surgery later on Monday after rupturing his left Achilles’ tendon while playing for AC Milan against Chievo on Sunday.
