The skilful P. Sudhakar created opportunities while the opportunistic A. Raegan pounded in four goals as a rampant AGORC trounced Arrows FC 5-0 in a CFA senior division football match at the Nehru Stadium on Friday.
The verdict severely dented Arrows’ title aspirations. After 10 games – this was the side’s penultimate match – Arrows has 19 points. AGORC has 15 from an equal number of duels.
Sudhakar, adjudged player-of-the-match, dominated the game with clinical passes, deft touches and clever play on and off the ball. Having the precious ability to dribble past defenders, Sudhakar repeatedly opened up the Arrows defence.
He scored the first goal himself, unleashing a thundering drive from about 30 yards in the fifth minute. Then he turned the provider, sending in a searing pass to Raegan in the 23th minute. The striker made no mistake, with goal-keeper Souvik Ghosh out of position.
Donning the role of an attacking central midfielder with finesse, Sudhakar flicked to his right for Raegan to make it 3-0 in the 33rd minute. Arrows had opportunities to narrow the lead with Nigerians James and Timothy toiling. Chances, though, were missed. Ashraf blew an opportunity when he had a clear look at the goal. Arrows, often, was off the mark from close range.
AGORC was not complaining. An immaculate Mervin pass had Raegan firing in his third goal in the 87th minute. With Arrows defence porous and demoralised by now, it was hardly surprising that a joyous Raegan completed the margin in injury time.
The results: Senior division: AGORC 5 (P. Sudhakar 5, A. Raegan 23, 33, 87, 90+1) bt Arrows FC 0.
First division: MSU 1 (Movssa Traore 37) drew with SDS 1 (Chinnarasu 13); Challengers Union 1 (Ashok 7) bt Central Excise 0.
