German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger on Sunday admitted that he is worried about his injured ankle but plans on fighting through the pain for what he hopes are two more matches at Euro 2012.
“Honestly, I am worried about my ankle,” Schweinsteiger told Welt am Sonntag newspaper, citing the injury as a reason for his sub-par showing in Germany’s 4-2 victory over Greece in the quarterfinals.
“But the time has not come for me to take it easy. We hopefully have two more games, I will fight through it. After that, I will see to it that I finally get healthy again.”
The issue is serious enough for the 27-year-old to admit he would understand if German coach Joachim Loew left him on the bench for Germany’s semifinal on Thursday against either England or Italy.
“If the national team coach decided that way, I wouldn’t have a problem with that,” said Schweinsteiger
