Real Madrid cruised into the final of the Spanish cup Tuesday with a 2-0 win at neighbours Atletico, with world player Cristiano Ronaldo converting two early penalties.
Real reached the final on a comfortable 5-0 aggregate, having won the first leg 3-0 last week. It will be their third final appearance within four seasons.
Atletico, who beat Real in last season’s final, went into the game without several key players injured or suspended.
Their slim chances of turning the tie round went up in smoke after just seven minutes when their right-back Javier Manquillo was harshly judged to have pulled down Ronaldo for a disputed penalty.
Ronaldo made it 1-0 from the spot then increased Real’s lead 10 minutes later from a second penalty, after Emiliano Insua had pulled down Gareth Bale.
Things went from bad to worse for Atletico when the luckless Manquillo suffered a badly broken collar bone.
The hosts battled on manfully but with little hope of saving the tie.
In the final Real will meet either Real Sociedad or Barcelona. Barca beat Sociedad 2—0 in the first leg last week and will go to San Sebastian for Wednesday’s second leg in good heart, after Sunday’s 4-1 romp at Sevilla.
