Struggling Sunderland confirmed on Tuesday they have appointed Gustavo Poyet as their new manager.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder signed a two-year contract to fill the void created by the sacking of Paolo Di Canio last month.
Sunderland sits bottom of the English Premier League with just one point from seven matches.
“We analysed a wide range of candidates and believe that Gus’s track record, experience, commitment and passion make him the right man to take us forward,” Sunderland chairman Ellis Short said.
