Chennai FC, one of the best private teams on view so far in the St. Joseph’s-Chennai Football Association league, proved its supremacy in no uncertain terms with a 5-1 drubbing of AGORC, a former champion, in a senior division contest here on Sunday.
Nigerian N.D. Opara, a much-feared striker, struck four goals to give his team its second victory in three matches — the lone defeat coming against Viva Chennai.
Opara’s country-mate Jagaba Hamza Anaba scored the other goal.
Praveendran converted the lone goal for AG’s, which suffered its third successive defeat.Off-field activities
AG’s attracted attention for its off-field activities. The side had just two players on the bench — Joffin and Raegan were suspended in an earlier match, and a couple of others skipped the match to go to their hometown for Easter.
The tie was as good as over in the first 20-odd minutes with Opara firing in three goals. The first one was, arguably, the pick.
Taking a pass from Hamza from the left, Opara converted it from an acute angle when it looked like he could only cross.
The second session saw Chennai losing much of its intensity with the three-goal advantage. Hamza and Opara, however, completed the tally for a morale-boosting triumph.
