Onyeka Okolie Odafa scored in the injury-time to help Mohun Bagan down Mumbai FC 3-2 in the rescheduled 14th round encounter of the I-League on Wednesday.

Bagan’s Nigerian player Odafa struck twice in the second half while his teammate from Australia, Tolgay Ozbey, scored the other goal in the first session.

Mumbai FC reduced the margin through Darren Caldeira and John Coutinho.

Needing a win to come out of the relegation zone, Bagan got the breakthrough in the 35th minute when Ozbey received a neat through-pass from midfielder Snehasish Chakraborty and finished with a superb angular drive past a diving Mumbai FC custodian Kunal Sawant.

Bagan pressed hard for the second goal after the interval and Odafa made no mistake with his attempt in the 52nd minute. The Nigerian headed home a neat cross from Ozbey to give Bagan a 2-0 lead.

Successive goals

Darren Caldeira pulled one back for Mumbai FC in the 56th minute off a pass from Yusif Yakubu. The visitor then levelled the scores in the 88th minute through John Coutinho, who made a fine solo effort.

Just when it looked all over for Bagan, Odafa scored the winner off a Denson Devdas corner in the injury-time to help his team bag full points.

Bagan tallied 19 points from 20 matches and came out of the relegation zone. Mumbai is on 30 from 23 matches.

The result: Mohun Bagan 3 (Tolgay Ozbey 35th minute, Onyeka Okolie Odafa 52, 90+6) bt Mumbai FC 2 (Darren Caldeira 56, John Coutinho 88).
