No word yet on who will present World Cup

July 07, 2010 04:01 pm | Updated 04:01 pm IST - JOHANNESBURG

FIFA has not yet decided who will present the World Cup trophy to the winning captain on Sunday.

Former South Africa President Nelson Mandela is likely to perform the honour if the 91-year-old anti-apartheid icon is well enough to attend the match at Soccer City but FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot says there is “no information on this so far.”

Maingot says the decision belongs to FIFA’s World Cup organising committee.

Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro received the 2006 trophy in Berlin from Lennart Johansson, who was then president of UEFA.
