Serie A club Napoli are considering appointing former star Diego Maradona as their ambassador.

The Argentine living legend, who on Friday was to discuss a long controversy with the Italian tax authority, sat next to club president Aurelio De Laurentiis as Napoli beat Roma 3-0 to qualify for the final of the Italian Cup on Wednesday.

“I was very happy about his showing up,” De Laurentiis told Radio 24 .

“He has had these problems with the tax authority and it was difficult to meet him. He would be a fantastic ambassador of Napoli in the world.

“We have six million fans and he would be the right person to represent us. I think about England, the United States, South America or (Asian countries).” “We can talk about this,” Maradona was reported by la Repubblica as saying. “I have Napoli in my heart and it is natural for me to take them around the world.” Maradona played for Napoli from 1984 to 1991, helping them win two Serie A titles, one Italian Cup, and one UEFA Cup. He abruptly left before the end of the 1990-91 season after failing a drug test.
