A beleaguered McDowell Mohun Bagan on Tuesday released its unimpressive striker Harrison Eric Muranda and recruited Chizoba Christopher from Peerless SC as the team’s fourth foreigner for the ongoing season.

A club press release said that the decision was arrived at after a meeting between directors of the club and chief coach Karim Bencherifa.

Meanwhile, the AIFF has punished Salgaocar SC for fielding two players — Matthew Foschini of Australia and Fulganco Cardozo, a local player — against Bengaluru FC and Pune FC. According to AIFF sources, the I-League CEO, Sunando Dhar was apprised of this procedural lapse on the part of the club which registered the two players with the Goa FA but failed to intimate the same to the AIFF.

Since Salgaocar had lost to Bengaluru there was no loss of points but Pune FC was awarded the match, three points and 3-0 goals. This decision meant there would be changes in the Salgaocar’s goal difference.

In another decision, Mohammedan Sporting was fined Rs. 40,000 because of supporters bursting crackers during the I-League match against Dempo SC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday. The club was also slapped with a show cause notice when a bottle was hurled into the playing field.
