Mohammedan Sporting to play in Durand Cup

October 25, 2014 03:51 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:12 pm IST - KOLKATA:

Mohammedan Sporting renewed its commitment to play in the top tournaments in India, revoking its decision to pull out of the Durand Cup, on Friday.

The club president and Trinamool Congress MP Sultan Ahmed announced a new general secretary — Moin Bin Maksud — who he hoped will be able to shepherd the club out of a financial distress.

“We never said the club will be shut down. There were some minor hiccups which every club encounters in its functioning. What has been said and written about us has been the conjecture of a section of the media and there was no substance of truth in that,” Ahmed said.

“The team starts practicing tomorrow and we will be playing two National-level tournaments — the Durand Cup and the Kalinga Cup,” he added.

The club announced Jameel Manzar as the new working president.
