Mohammedan Sporting was rooted to the bottom of the table when it was held by United Sports Club in the 21st round of the Airtel I-League match at Kalyani on Saturday.

It looked like Mohammedan Sporting would carry the day when it scored in the 44th minute through playmaker Penn Orji.

But, the joy was short-lived when Biswajit Biswas equalised two minutes inside the six-minute injury time.

The draw enabled United SC jump to tenth spot with 22 points from 21 games. Sporting, with 18 points, remained at the bottom from 20 matches.

The match will be remembered for the terrible collision between United SC custodian Abhijit Das and Sporting’s midfielder Monirul Mondal. Both were taken to a hospital. While Das injured his jaw Monirul escaped any serious injury. United SC’s Lalkamal Bhowmick saw red in the 72nd minute.

PTI reports from Vasco: Rangdajied United dented Salgaocar FC’s title hopes with a 2-1 victory at the Tilak Maidan.

Salgaocar had taken the lead in the 81st minute through Francisco Fernandes but Rangdajied United hit back with goals from Ranti Martins in the 86th and 90th minute to scuttle the home team’s title hopes.

Salgaocar strikers Dudu Omagbemi and Darryl Duffy, as always, were combining well and created the first move within the first ten minutes. In a swift counter-attack, Francis Fernandes relayed the ball to Dudu, who beat defender Lamine Tamba with a body feint but the defender recovered just in time to stretch wide and block Dudu’s booming effort.

The results:

At Kalyani: United SC 1 (Biswajit 45) drew with Mohammedan Sporting 1 (Penn 44).

At Vasco: Salgaocar FC 1 (Francisco Fernandes 81) lost to Rangdajied United 2 (Ranti Martins 86, 90).
