Notwithstanding the mass demonstrations during the Confederations Cup, Germany coach Joachim Loew expects a memorable World Cup next year in Brazil.
“My initial impression is very positive,” he told German TV late on Thursday. “The people are very friendly and incredibly fanatical about football. I think it will be a memorable World Cup next year.” He said the German football federation delegation, led by manager Oliver Bierhoff that was conducting an inspection-tour of the country during which they looked for a World Cup base, had noted the demonstrations.
The 53-year-old coach showed some understanding that Brazilians took the streets for better education and health. “I am not concerned about the security situation, I am sure it will be very secure.” Loew watched the Confederations Cup match between the hosts Brazil and Mexico in Fortaleza. He admitted that the World Cup finals would be a big challenge due to the huge distances between venues, which provided extreme temperature changes.
