Liverpool signed Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen for $7.1 million on Thursday.
Juventus confirmed the sale and Liverpool revealed that the Dane has signed a three-year deal, re-uniting him with manager Roy Hodgson, who managed him at FC Copenhagen.
The 30-year-old is seen as a replacement for Javier Mascherano, who continues to be linked with a move, with Barcelona now favourites to snap him up.
The Argentina captain confirmed on Wednesday he wants to leave, but said it was because he wants to experience another culture, not that he was disenchanted with Liverpool.
“The only thing I want to say is I don’t have nothing against the Liverpool supporters, the Liverpool people,” he said. “My problem is not to play for Liverpool. I’m very proud to play for Liverpool. It’s another thing.
“I said to him (manager Roy Hodgson) that maybe for my life I prefer to change the country, not to change the club — that is the fact.
“Sometimes you can see all the things that the papers or the press say, but at the end the only thing I can say is thank you to everyone in Liverpool because they supported me all the time, from the beginning until now.” Poulsen joins fellow new signings Joe Cole, Milan Jovanovic and Danny Wilson at Liverpool.
