Dream start: Having arrived only on Wednesday, Jese Rodriguez made an instant impact by scoring against Arsenal on Saturday.

Promoted Huddersfield Town made it two wins out of two in the Premier League as a superb Aaron Mooy strike gave it a 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday.

After its 3-0 win at Crystal Palace last week marked its return to the top flight after a 45-year absence, Australian Mooy fired it ahead with a curling shot in the 50th minute.

On Saturday, Stoke City’s new loan signing Jese Rodriguez made an immediate impact by scoring the only goal as his side stunned Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal 1-0.

The 24-year-old Spaniard, who only arrived in England this week, started and finished the move that saw Mark Hughes’ men add to the question marks that are already building around Arsenal.

Impressive finish

Jese, who is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, surged through midfield in the 47th minute and exchanged passes with Sadio Berahino before slotting an impressive finish past Petr Cech.

Stoke’s goal drew a response from Arsenal, with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross drawing an unsuccessful handball appeal against Kurt Zouma. Then Bellerin sprinted through and, after Butland juggled his shot, Shawcross was forced to hack the ball behind at the expense of a corner.

When Lacazette finally put the ball in the net in the 72nd minute, an offside flag came to the home team’s rescue.

Atletico held

In La Liga, Atletico Madrid battled back from 2-0 down after a red card for Antoine Griezmann to salvage a 2 -2 draw at newly-promoted Girona. Christian Stuani took advantage of some slack marking at the heart of an Atletico defence shorn of the suspended Diego Godin to head home twice in three first-half minutes.

Atletico’s hopes seemed to have gone when Griezmann was controversially dismissed 23 minutes from time.

The results: Premier League: Huddersfield 1 (Mooy 50) bt Newcastle 0.

Saturday: Stoke 1 (Jese 47) bt Arsenal 0.

La Liga: Saturday: Celta Vigo 2 (Gomez 22, 51) lost to Real Sociedad 3 (Oyarzabal 32, Juanmi 80, Willian Jose 87); Girona 2 (Stuani 22, 25) drew with Atletico Madrid 2 (Correa 78, Gimenez 85); Sevilla 1 (Lenglet 26) drew with Espanyol 1 (Leo Baptistao 35).

Bundesliga: Saturday: Schalke 04 2 (Bentaleb 44-pen, Konoplyanka 73) bt RB Leipzig 0.

Serie A: Saturday: Juventus 3 (Mandzukic 12, Dybala 45+1, Higuain 66) bt Cagliari 0; Verona 1 (Pazzini 83-pen) lost to Napoli 3 (Souprayen 32-og, Milik 39, Ghoulam 62).
