Two goals in injury time helped Sporting Clube de Goa beat Salgaocar 3-1 in their I-League match here on Wednesday.

Augustin Fernandes gave the Salgaocar the lead in the 38th minute before Juan Francisco Gacia Pena restored parity for Sporting Clube in the 61st minute.

However, two goals in stoppage time by Victorino Fernandes and Kalu Ogba saw Sporting Clube collect full points. Sporting Clube has 26 points from 20 matches while Salgaocar remains on 20.

It was an even battle as play was confined to the midfield for a better part of the first half. Sporting Clube made moves mostly from the right and had its first chance through Rogen Singh, but his weak shot was collected by Salgaocar ’keeper Karanjit Singh.

Randeep Singh showed a lot of enterprise on the flank for Salgaocar, as he fed his strikers with long crosses and the side finally tasted success in the 38th minute. Randeep’s flag-kick saw the ball land at Augustin Fernandes’ feet inside the box and the latter’s shot took a deflection off Kalu before entering the net.

A few minutes later, Francis Fernandes had a good chance to increase the lead when he had all space and time on the left side of the box, but the Salgaocar midfielder sent his left-footer wide with only the ’keeper Bruno at his mercy.

After change of ends, Gabriel Obatola had a clear opportunity to score in the 53rd minute after Josimar had done all the spade work, but the former shot wide from close.

The result:

Sporting Clube de Goa 3 (Juan Francisco Gacia Pena, Victorino Fernandes, Kalu Ogba) bt Salgaocar 1 (Augustin Fernandes).
