Didier Drogba was taken to hospital with an arm injury as his Ivory Coast team beat Japan in a World Cup warm-up match on Friday.
The Chelsea forward Drogba had to quit the game early after falling on his right arm in a challenge with Japan defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka.
He was replaced by Seydou Doumbia. Speculation ranged from a dislocated to a fractured elbow as his World Cup appearance was thrown into doubt. A final diagnosis was not available immediately.
The Ivory Coast captain Drogba, 32, was earlier instrumental in the first goal when his free-kick was deflected into the net by Tanaka. Kolo Toure wrapped up matters with eight games left for Sven Goran Eriksson’s team.
It was the final of just two tests for the Ivory Coast team, the other a 2-2 draw with Paraguay, ahead of their World Cup opener on June 15 against Portugal. They also play Brazil and North Korea in group G.
Japan, which lost all four tune-up games, plays the Netherlands, Denmark and Cameroon in group E.
