After days of speculation, Kerala Blasters FC has finally confirmed that Spanish defender Carlos Marchena, 36, will be its marquee player for the second edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) which begins in October.
Marchena, a member of the Spanish team which won the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, was also a star of the side which won the 2008 European championship, the 1999 World youth championship and the silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
“Carlos Marchena is our marquee player; that is all I would like to confirm at this stage,” said Viren D’Silva, general manager of Kerala Blasters. Marchena was a key player at Spanish club Valencia and helped the side to two La Liga triumphs, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
