Indian Super League champion Chennaiyin FC has signed Baljit Sahni, who won the title with Atletico de Kolkata in 2014, on a one-year deal.
Baljit, who hails from Hoshiarpur in Punjab, has 21 appearances for Kolkata from the first two ISL seasons.
After ISL last year, he played on loan for DSK Shivajians in the I-league and now joins Chennaiyin on a permanent deal.
The 29-year old, started his career with JCT FC, for which he played for three years.
He became the first Indian to score a hat-trick in the I-League in the 2009-10 season. In 2009, he was also adjudged the “Best Young Player” and went on to represent the Indian U-23 team in the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup.
Baljit moved to East Bengal that year, and spent five seasons there. Another highlight of his career is the three goals he scored in the 2011 AFC Cup.
“I’ve admired and watched him closely from the very first campaign. He is already an ISL winner and his versatility will add to our strength,” said Chennaiyin coach Marco Materazzi.
