Indian Bank beat Chennai City FC 2-0 in the CFA senior division football league at the Nehru Stadium on Wednesday.

The first half saw Chennai City playing more short passes and pressing up if given space. Shortly after the start, M. Soosai Raj fed Morgan Justice in the box, but the Nigerian collided with T. Sasi Kumar before shaping to strike.

Squandered chance

The promoted side had another chance to go up when F. Jegan’s long ball found Onwubuakiri in the box, but he squandered it.

He was at fault again when his strike; a fabulous move, initiated by Morgan, Leoncius Britto and A. Beautin from the left, was blocked by the goalkeeper. He was to try again, from long range.

Indian Bank sucked up the pressure and started to attack on the counter. Oletju Joseph Abhi almost scored when he covered a third of the depth on his own to hit inches above the post.

Indian Bank’s play, and with it, the game changed in the second half.

The blues stacked to keep the ball up in the top-half for Oletju to deliver in the 51st minute.

Controlled possession

They had controlled possession and staved off the opposition for the rest of the match.

Frenance added to the lead in injury time – his cross, after having steered clear of the only marksman, from the left of the box found the target.

The result:

Senior division: Indian Bank 2 (Oletju Joseph Abhi 51, Frenance 91) bt Chennai City FC 0.

First division: SAI 3 (A. Pagutharivalan 40, D. Ganesamoorthy 66, M. Vijayan 83) bt Challengers Union 2 (T. Pugazhendhi 11, B. William Bill 36).
