India’s central defender Sandesh Jhingan says he is happy at the prospect of playing against rivals known for their physical brand of football. Kenya, New Zealand and Chinese Taipei are other sides in the fray at the Intercontinental Cup next month at the Mumbai Football Arena.

“We need to play as many games against tough opponents in our preparations for the Asia Cup.

“It will test our abilities and get to know our weaknesses as well,” he said.

The four-nation tournament is slated to prepare the national team for the AFC Asia Cup.

“Teams in the Asia Cup like Bahrain and the UAE like physical play, so matches against a physical side like Kenya will be useful.

“We like to play against tough teams, who will keep you on your toes, that is how you learn,” he said during an interaction at the MFA.

“The boys are looking forward to the tournament. The dressing room atmosphere is healthy, everyone is keen to learn,” he added.
