A couple of defensive lapses from Shillong Lajong gave Bengaluru FC its second straight I-League win at home here on Saturday. The champion won 2-0 to register 10 points in six matches, while Lajong slipped to its fourth defeat in five fixtures.

The two goals came through headers — one each from Robin Singh and Thoi Singh, on either side of the half.

On both occasions, the Lajong defence was nowhere in sight, giving away the easiest of chances.

The visitor should have, at the very least, ran the contest close, after BFC defender Curtis Osano was sent off in the 41st minute. Osano pulled striker Cornell Glenn — he was through to goal — back by his jersey, and was quickly given the marching orders.

If BFC was concerned at this point, the response from Lajong would have allayed all fears. The attacking play saw no considerable improvement despite playing against 10 men, and in fact, it was BFC which found the net.

A pin-point cross from Eugeneson Lyngdoh found an unmarked Thoi and the midfielder recorded his third goal of the season with ease.

“Even though we were down to 10 men, we could have scored two or three more goals. It was a fantastic show,” a beaming BFC coach Ashley Westwood said.

The result:

Bengaluru FC 2 (Robin Singh 16, Thoi Singh 61) bt Shillong Lajong 0.
