English Premier League club Hull City were denied the permission to change their name to Hull Tigers on Wednesday after a ruling by the Football Association Council.
The application was rejected by a 63.5 per cent vote of the council’s members, an organisation made up of representatives from throughout football.
Club Owner Assem Allam wanted the name change to boost marketing potential for the 110-year-old club.
The name change was narrowly endorsed by season ticket holders but opposed by an alliance of supporter groups under the name City Till We Die.
