Former Tamil Nadu State and Integral Coach Factor football player P.V. Sriramulu (78) passed away after a rail accident last Sunday. Sriramulu, who was suffering from dementia, is survived by wife, son and daughter.

A forward, Sriramulu played for Indian XI against the visiting Russian team in Chennai in 1968. He played for WIMCO, a senior division team, for three years before turning up for ICF from 1965 to ’74.

Known for his curling corner kicks, Sriramulu represented Tamil Nadu in the Santosh Trophy for nine years from 1962 barring 1969 when he played for Indian Railways.

After his playing days, Sriramulu completed his coaching stint at National Institute of Sports (Patiala) in 1972 and was a National referee for a decade. Apart from coaching the State senior, junior and sub-junior teams, he also guided Universal RC, a second division team in the CFA, in the late ’80s.

“He was supported by Fr. McFerran and Fr. Gerard of Don Bosco (Broadway) for the major part of his life,” said Ravikumar David, former secretary, Tamil Nadu Football Association.
