Beleaguered SV Hamburg beat bottom club Eintracht Braunschweig 4-0 on Saturday for their first victory of the Bundesliga season.
Teenager Hakan Calhanoglu got a late double after goals from Rafael van der Vaart, Jacques Toua for Hamburg in the fourth game of the campaign.
“We played well today... Now we have four points. That is not much, but we have the first win and want to build on that,” Hamburg coach Thorsten Kink told Sky TV.
Mainz, by contrast, had their perfect start into the campaign stopped in a 4-1 defeat at Hanover, leaving Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen as the only teams with maximum points.
Champions Bayern Munich lead the standings with 10 points but was held 1-1 in Freiburg on Tuesday. Dortmund, Leverkusen, Mainz and Hanover have nine each, with Leverkusen at Schalke Saturday night and Dortmund visiting Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
Schalke has just one point and will be hoping for their first season victory just as Hamburg finally achieved.
The Dutch midfielder Van der Vaart slotted the opening goal off Maximilian Beister’s defence-splitting pass in the seventh minute and Beister then also set up Toua 10 minutes later for 2-0.
