Football icon Diego Maradona says he is not happy with Argentina’s performance at the World Cup despite it making the quarterfinals.

In his nightly Venezuelan television broadcast De Zurda , Maradona said he felt “bitter” and “angry” after watching Argentina’s 1-0 extra-time victory over Switzerland on Tuesday.

“I have the impression we haven’t really got going,” said the former national team player and coach, adding the squad was showing only 40 per cent of its potential.

“There are players who haven’t really started to play in the World Cup,” he said.

“If Argentina do not wake up, then we are going to be in a difficult situation,” said the Argentine legend, citing “a lack of rhythm and pace up front” as a problem faced by the team.

Referring to Lionel Messi, Maradona said, “The boy is more-or-less on his own. If things don’t go right for him, we should not blame him for the Argentina disaster.”
