More than 20 people were injured when the span of concrete fell onto a road below near Belo Horizonte, one of Brazil’s World Cup host cities, crushing two unoccupied trucks, a car, and the front of a bus, Mayor Marcio Lacerda said.

One of the fatalities was the bus driver.

The accident occurred within 10km of the city’s Mineirao stadium, slated to host a World Cup semifinal on Tuesday.

Rescuers were trying to reach the buried vehicles and any other possible victims, Fire Department Captain Edgard Estevo told broadcaster Globo .

The trucks belonged to a construction company, which told authorities that they were unoccupied.

The accident blocked the main road from the local airport to central Belo Horizonte.
