Alex Ferguson has said UEFA was right to ban Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva for two matches after he deceived the referee to win a penalty in a Champions League match.
The Manchester United coach said that UEFA had to send a strong disciplinary message because it was such a high profile competition.
Ferguson also said coaches and clubs have a duty to educate players to eliminate diving from football.
Speaking at UEFA after a two-day gathering of coaches from Europe’s top clubs, Ferguson said he would not be proud to win a game if one of his players had dived to win a key decision.
But he said that Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger, who also attended the meetings, was correct to publicly defend Eduardo.
