European Leagues: Kane to Tottenham’s rescue

Harry Kane rescued a Premier League point for Tottenham on Sunday by scoring with the last kick of the Premier League game for a 2-2 draw against West Ham.

The in-form striker struck in the sixth minute of injury time, scoring from the rebound after having his penalty saved by West Ham goalkeeper Adrian. Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate opened the scoring in the first half with a powerful header past Tottenham ‘keeper Hugo Loris.

Diafra Sakho doubled the lead midway through the second half, guiding home Mark Noble’s cross from a tight angle. Tottenham left back Danny Rose kept the game alive, scoring in the 81st minute after mis-hitting the ball down into the ground, only for the ball to loop over Adrian.

Man City cruises

Manchester City enjoyed the perfect preparation for its Champions League showdown with Barcelona as Edin Dzeko inspired a 5-0 demolition of Newcastle at Eastlands on Saturday.

Dzeko scored one and had a hand in two others, ensuring Manuel Pellegrini’s second-placed side cut Chelsea’s advantage at the top of the Premier League to five points.

Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and David Silva, who netted twice, were also on the scoresheet for rampant City.

City’s biggest league win of the season will have been noted by Barca ahead of their visit to Manchester for the last 16 first leg on Tuesday.
