Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o was banned for three games on Tuesday for butting an opponent in a Serie A weekend game, the ANSA news agency reported.
A sports judge also fined the Cameroon international 30,000 euros (40,600 dollars) for his off-the-ball blow in the chest of Chievo’s Slovenian defender Bostjan Cesar.
None of the four game officials noticed the attack, which followed a clash between the two players. Television footage was used to sentence Eto’o.
The suspension is bad news for Inter who will miss their prolific striker in a crucial game to second-placed Lazio on December 3.
Eto’o leads the Serie A scorers’ table next to Napoli’s Uruguayan Edinson Cavani on nine goals from 13 games. Inter lost 2-1 at Chievo on Sunday and slipped nine points behind leaders AC Milan.
