A depleted Bengaluru Football Club (BFC) takes on Singapore club Warriors FC in an AFC Cup group stage encounter here on Tuesday. This fixture is a chance for the less established lot to show their prowess.

BFC will miss the services of star players Sunil Chhetri, Robin Singh, Keegan Pereira and Eugeneson Lyngdoh, who are away with the Indian team.

The team may also have to make do without defender John Johnson — he came off the field in BFC’s previous match with an injury. A final call will be taken before the start of the match.

Coach Ashley Westwood stated that the side is “still waiting on Shankar Sampangiraj”, who is currently training with the junior India squad.

The club has registered one win and one loss in the tournament so far; with the 1-3 defeat away to Indonesian team Persipura Jayapura an indication that BFC is vulnerable.

No walk in the park

It is still no walk in the park for Warriors FC, the national champion. The side has lost both its AFC fixtures, but more worryingly, is coming off a 0-6 thumping at the hands of Albirex Niigata in the national S. League.

“We have had some bad results, but the players are keen on getting a positive result here. The team is quite hurt after the loss (to Albirex Niigata).

“We want to get that out of our system and focus on BFC,” Warriors FC head coach Alex Weaver said here on Monday.
