Dempo SC all but confirmed this season's I-League title thumping Mohun Bagan 4-1 in a 23rd round encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Wednesday. With three more rounds to go Dempo needs just a draw to reach an insurmountable position and ensure its third title.

After 23 matches Dempo led the league standings with 47 points while Mahindra United remained second with 38 points.

Mohun Bagan scored in the seventh minute through N.S. Manju who guided home a corner taken by Marcose Pereira to bring cheers in the home camp.

Dempo found the equaliser two minutes after the restart as its Brazilian midfielder Roberto Mendes Silva nodded home a Samir Naik corner. Dempo's Nigerian striker Ranty Martins put the visitor in the lead in the 55th minute before Joaquim Abranches made it 3-1 by the 61st minute.

Dempo picked up the fourth goal in the 64th minute when Roberto Silva scored his second goal.
