Sunil Chhetri thanked everyone at the Nehru Stadium and Wim Koevermans complimented the players. The captain and coach of the Indian team glowed with delight after India won the Nehru Cup against a stronger and higher-ranked team.

“To me, there was not one weak player in the Indian team,” asserted Koevermans. “I am proud of them all. They have taken a few steps forward. This is a very special moment for me (as a coach). The boys worked very hard. I hope they do well with their respective clubs now.”

Chhetri acknowledged the support from the crowd. “I love them. Delhi has always been lucky for us. We have always got massive support. Cameroon was playing against 11 men and the crowd. I thank everyone who came. I wouldn’t like to make comparisons, but this is a huge moment for us.”

Chhetri and Koevermans confessed that they were challenged by a strong team. “I was impressed with Cameroon’s technical abilities. Our boys played well and this win will be good for this generation of Indian footballers.”

The Indian skipper concluded, “We are good listeners when the coach speaks, but we have not yet reached where he wants us to. We are moving in that direction and will give it as much as we can.”

Cameroon coach Emmanuel Bosso “congratulated” India and said, “We did what we could, but didn’t succeed in scoring goals. It was a good tournament, but the level was low.”
