Chennaiyin FC announced the signings of Cameroonian midfielder Eric Djemba Djemba and Haitian forward Jean Maurice Edu on Sunday.
The move came after the club allowed Swedish midfielder Pierre Tillman and Spanish striker Eduardo Silva Lerma to depart due to ‘technical issues with the contracts.’
It may be noted that both Tillman and Eduardo had not travelled with the team for its opening match away in Goa last Wednesday.
Djemba Djemba is a former Manchester United player (2003-05) and last plied his trade in the Scottish Premiership where he played two games for St. Mirren this year before being released.
The 33-year-old has represented Cameroon 24 times and played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
He was also part of his country’s squad which won the 2002 African Cup of Nations. Maurice Edu is a former Paris Saint-Germain player with stints at Lens and Le Mans in the French top tier.
“We are happy to sign Djemba Djemba and Maurice,” a release quoted player-manager Marco Materazzi as saying. “Both are top players and will add plenty of quality and experience to our team. We are also sad that Tillman and Eduardo are leaving and wish them well for the future.”
Djemba Djemba and Maurice Edu are expected to join the team later this week following their visa formalities.
