Manchester United produced a battling performance to draw 1—1 with Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday while Atletico Madrid drew 1—1 at Barcelona.

Bayern had Bastian Schweinsteiger’s emphatic left-foot finish in the 67th minute to thank for securing a draw at Old Trafford after Nemanja Vidic headed United in front from a corner eight minutes earlier.

Schweinsteiger was then dismissed after a second yellow card in the last minute and misses the second leg with suspension.

In Spain, Atletico Madrid opened the scoring when Diego thundered a tremendous shot into the top corner in the 56th minute.

Barcelona poured forward and secured a deserved 71st minute equalizer when Neymar curled home from Andres Iniesta’s neat pass.

The second legs in both ties take place April 9. In the other quarter—final ties Wednesday, Paris St Germain host Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund travel to Real Madrid.
