Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola set a Bundesliga record after needing only 61 matches for his 50th league win when the champion beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 on Saturday to march towards the title.

The Spaniard, in his second season at Bayern, reached the mark faster than any other coach, with the previous record held by the late Udo Lattek, who needed 78 matches.

There was more good news for Guardiola as midfielder Thiago Alcantara staged his comeback after more than a year out injured as Bayern maintained its 10-point lead.

Goalless draw On Sunday, Schalke 04’s hopes of a top-four finish receded further after a goalless draw at Augsburg.

The Gelsenkirchen club, without a win in three league games, remains in fifth place on 40 points, eight behind Bayer Leverkusen in fourth and one ahead of Augsburg, with seven matches left in the season.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar had Schalke’s best chance eight minutes after the break when Tranquillo Barnetta won the ball and fed the Dutch striker whose shot was parried by keeper Marwin Hitz.

Augsburg’ Raul Bobadilla twice tried his luck with curling free kicks that flew just over the bar as the hosts upped the tempo late in the game.

The result: On Sunday: Augsburg 0 drew withSchalke 04 0

On Saturday: Borussia Dortmund 0 lost to Bayern Munich 1 (Lewandowski 36).
