Birmingham beats Burnley 2-1

Birmingham City beat relegated Burnley 2-1 on Saturday to secure themselves a finish in the top half of the English Premier League.

An own goal from Brian Jensen and a Christian Benitez goal were enough to give Birmingham victory, with Steven Thompson’s late strike a mere consolation for the visitors.

Birmingham remain ninth, six points clear of the next two teams but their superior goal difference to Blackburn means it would take a miracle to deny them a place in the top 10.

Later on Saturday, the battle for fourth place and the remaining Champions League spot could become clearer as Tottenham Hotspur — who lie fourth — play sixth-placed Manchester City.

Leaders Chelsea, one point clear of Manchester United, are away to Liverpool on Sunday, while United travel to Sunderland just a few hours later.
