Athletic Bilbao reclaimed fourth place in the Spanish league with a never-say-die 4-2 home defeat on Monday of lowly Valladolid, with all its goals coming in the last 25 minutes.

Veteran captain Oscar gave Valladolid the lead in the 15th minute against the run of play.

Winger Ibai Gomez made it 1-1 with a low drive in the 65th .

Oscar de Marcos made it 2-1 with a close-range header 19 minutes later.

Man-of-the-Match Gomez capped an impressive display with a handsome solo goal to make it 3-1 before Ander Herrera — another of Bilbao’s promising youngsters — completed the rout. Valdet Rama pulled a late consolation goal back for Valladolid, but it was a clear case of too little, too late.

The result : Athletic Bilbao 4 (Gomez 65, 82, De Marcos 75, Herrera 86) bt Valladolid 2 (Oscar 15, Rama 90+1).
