Betkuchi High School, Assam, shocked title contender Infant Jesus School, Goa by a solitary goal to reach the semifinals of the 54th Subroto Cup inter-school football tournament here on Wednesday.
With several members of the India under-14 squad in their ranks, Infant Jesus was expected to have it easy in the tournament. But it was let down by some poor finishing despite controlling possession and the flow of the game for a large part of the match.
Most of the Goan team players are being groomed for the U-17 World Cup but they just could not break past the Assamese defence. The winners were finally rewarded for their patience with an opportunistic strike by Tridev Boro in the 42nd minute to seal the win.
