FC Goa marquee player Robert Pires and Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) head coach Antonio Lopez Habas, who were reportedly involved in a scuffle during an ill-tempered Indian Super League (ISL) match at Goa on Thursday, have been suspended and fined by the AIFF Disciplinary Committee.

Pires has been suspended for two matches and Habas four matches.

The duo, who have been found to have breached the AIFF Disciplinary Code (Article 58) of Offensive Behaviour and Fair Play, have also been fined Rs. 5 lakh each. This is Habas’s second run-in with the authorities, after being warned by the Disciplinary Committee for an earlier incident.

Habas reportedly punched Pires in the face during an altercation at half-time.

ATK striker Fikru Lemessa has been suspended for two matches and fined Rs. 5 lakh for head-butting FC Goa player Gregory Arnolin during the match.

Predipkumar Bhaktawer, ATK goalkeeper coach, has been handed a one-match ban and fined Rs. 30,000 for his role in the Pires-Habas altercation.

Meanwhile, Atletico de Kolkata has appealed against the suspensions imposed on Habas and Lemessa.

“We will abide by the rules of the tournament and have appealed against the ban of both coach Habas and striker Lemessa. We hope our appeal will be addressed by the ISL governing body,” said Subrata Talukdar, member of ATK’s managing committee.

The tournament rules provides for an appeal within four days of the announcement of the disciplinary committee decision.
