Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta along with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo have been shortlisted for the 2011-2012 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.
The three players gained the most points in a vote among 53 sports journalists representing each of the UEFA member associations, European football’s organising body said on Tuesday.
The award will be decided in a vote in Monaco during the Champions League group stage draw on August 30.
Messi, who won the award when it was introduced last year, is also the world player of the year for the past three years.
Positions four to 10 have already been established in the vote, with Italy’s Andrea Pirlo (Juventus) fourth, followed by Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona), Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Didier Drogba (Chelsea, now Shanghai Shenhua), Petr Cech (Chelsea) tied with Falcao (Atletico Madrid) and Mesut Oezil (Real Madrid).

Cristiano Ronaldo will surely win Ballon d'Or for sure. Or else it would surely defy logic making Messi or Iniesta the winner. And by no means Iker Casillas should have been made to settle for 6th place in those rankings as he by his leadership skills on and off the pitch took both Real Madrid and the La Roja to ultimate glory i.e La Liga and Euro 2012. If at all Casillas is not deserving then neither is Iniesta or Messi. Ronaldo took Portugal to Semi-finals in Euro and loosing there only on Penalties unlike Italy who even though went to finals but lost there. Coming to performance CR7 has did everything in human reach whereas Messi failed to deliver his magic when required consider it in El Clasico or for Albiceleste in Copa America or in International Friendlies.
I would surely support Cristiano Ronaldo for this terms Ballon d'Or award or Best Footballer of the year award.
Andre Iniesta more than anybody else, he single handedly won the EURO
2012 for Spain and as always was the creative engine behind most of
barcelona's beautiful play and also was man behind most of Messi's
goals.
