Germany coach Joachim Loew says Bayer Leverkusen’s Rene Adler is now his first choice goalkeeper after Robert Enke was ruled out of the team’s last two World Cup qualifiers.

Adler replaced Hannover’s Enke in Germany’s last two games. Loew said that Enke - who has a stomach infection - won’t be in the squad for a crucial encounter with Russia on October 10 and the final qualifying match against Finland on October 14.

Asked who his No. 1 is now, Loew told Bild daily: “Rene Adler - assuming nothing serious happens,” adding that he had his “absolute confidence” after keeping clean sheets against South Africa and Azerbaijan.

Two other goalkeepers are also vying for the No. 1 spot: Werder Bremen’s Tim Wiese and Schalke’s Manuel Neuer.
