The Chennai franchisee for the inaugural Indian Super League is expected to have a mix of Bollywood allure and Italian expertise.

“Abhishek Bachchan is going to be one of the principal benefactors of the Chennai team,” a source involved with the process said. “He would have been present in Mumbai for the international players’ draft if not for his kabbadi commitments.”

Partnering Abhishek will be 18-time Serie A winner Inter Milan and Playon Skills, a Bangalore based company involved in grass-root football development.

“Inter Milan and a senior figure from the Swedish national setup helped Team Chennai pick the right players from the international draft and the Italian team is expected to continue to provide technical support,” the source said.

“If things go according to plan an Inter Legends team might also play a friendly with the Chennai franchisee ahead of the ISL season.”
