The Commonwealth Games are nearly a sell-out, what with only a few tickets available for the badminton and weightlifting preliminary rounds.
Disclosing this at the daily briefing for the media, Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said on Wednesday that this only proved that the event was that of the people of Glasgow and the Commonwealth.
“Of the 1.1 million tickets made available to sporting fans, only a few tickets remain. The tickets available are for the badminton and weightlifting preliminary rounds and I am sure that these too will be sold before the events start.
Of the total tickets, 57 per cent have been sold in Glasgow and Scotland, 40 per cent through the rest of the United Kingdom and the remaining three per cent abroad.
Louise Martin, vice-chair Glasgow 2014 organising committee, who was present, said, “I can’t believe 12 years ago at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games is where our dream began and this evening that dream is coming true. It is going to be spectacular, the memories and emotions you will experience will last a lifetime.
