Tillakaratne Dilshan hit an unbeaten century and claimed two wickets as Sri Lanka finally looked like a World Cup contender with a 92-run victory over a sloppy Bangladesh on Thursday in a Pool A game.

Dilshan made 161, his third World Cup century, while Kumar Sangakkara marked his 400th one-day international with a quick-fire 105 not out in a 210-run partnership after Sri Lanka won the toss and batted on a placid Melbourne Cricket Ground wicket.

Lahiru Thirimanne (52) was the lone Sri Lankan wicket in its imposing 332-1 total, but not before he raised an attractive half century.

Lasith Malinga bowled Tamim Iqbal for a duck with just the second ball of the chase and Sri Lanka never looked in danger as Bangladesh capitulated for 240 in 47 overs.
