A win will ensure Trinidad and Tobago a berth in the semifinals. But a loss will put it in a tight spot as the Caribbean side will tie on points (eight) with Titans in Group ‘B’.
After snatching a narrow six-run victory (on D/L method) against Titans on Monday, T&T will be inspired to upset table topper Chennai Super Kings’ plans of maintaining a clean slate in the Group stage.
The contest at the Ferozeshah Kotla should be a lively one. CSK boasts a formidable batting line-up — captain M.S. Dhoni, Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, Dawyne Bravo and S. Badrinath. T&T has a fine bowling attack, headed by the clever off-spinner Sunil Narine and supported well by Ravi Rampaul and Samuel Badree.
With two Indian Premier League (IPL) teams already making the cut for the semifinals, T&T’s presence in the last four will provide variety.
The West Indian outfit, firmly backed by the legendary Brian Lara, will rely on the ruthless stroke-play of Darren Bravo, Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons to score bulk of its runs.
Against a strong batting side like CSK, and with a semifinal spot on target, the trio’s responsibility increases manifold.
Even though it is eyeing its fourth win on the trot, CSK may experiment and test its bench strength before the crucial knockout stage.
The team will do well to see off the dangerous Narine and target other Trinidadians to put up a good total.
Loads of entertainment is in the offing, for sure
